Silent Night

The singing of the hymn, "Silent Night" and lighting of the candles during the 2009 Christmas Eve Service.

The first verse of “Silent Night” is sung as a solo by Mark Kemp. The congregation joins in on the second and following verses and concludes by repeating the first verse. As “Silent Night” is sung, the lights are dimmed, and the minister, Lud Weaver, lights a candle from the Christ candle on the Advent wreath. The Christ candle is in honor of His birth. It is the center candle as Christ Himself is central to our understanding of God. The white color signifies the pure life of Christ. The flame is a symbol of Christ, the Light of the world.  The minister then lit the candles of the ushers. They are passed from worshipper to worshipper.
