Disaster Relief
Presbyterian Church responds to the Earthquake in HaitiRecovery efforts by Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) and our partners continue in the wake of the January 12 quake that is believed to have killed at least 230,000 in Haiti. The disaster response in Haiti is multitiered. We are supporting our ecumenical partners, Church World Service (CWS) and Action by Churches Together (ACT) Alliance, and ecumenically-related partners in Haiti and the neighboring Dominican Republic. We are also working in partnership with the Medical Benevolence Foundation (MBF), the Haiti Foundation and partners with whom PC(USA) has long-term mission relationships. Seeds for HaitiThe migration of thousands of people from the earthquake-devastated areas around and in Port-au-Prince to rural areas of Haiti is threatening the security and sovereignty of rural food systems. The Joining Hands network FONDAMA is prioritizing the urgent need for an increase in rural food production. FONDAMA’s goal is to purchase 400 tons of local seeds for immediate distribution to 30,000 farmers nationwide. The local cost is estimated at roughly $1 million. Donations for the purchase of these local seeds by our partners in Haiti can be made to the PHP account for Haiti H000014. If you have questions about relief efforts please contact Susan McLarty - Mission Outreach Coordinator.
